The beach
Batis is the first proper stretch of sand you reach coming south out of the city, sitting on the Palaio Faliro waterfront where the coastline turns from port to shoreline. The bay is shallow and sheltered, which is why it fills with families rather than the beach-club crowd you find further south.
It is an urban beach and makes no pretence otherwise — the avenue runs behind it and the marinas are in sight — but the water is calm, the sand is groomed, and there are showers, loungers, and cafés along the back edge. For anyone staying in the northern part of the Riviera it is the closest place to swim without a drive.
Getting there
Roughly 8 km from Glyfada and about 7 km from the centre of Athens, Batis is one of the easiest beaches to reach without a car: the coastal tram runs directly behind it, and buses along Poseidonos Avenue stop nearby. Driving from Glyfada takes around fifteen minutes outside rush hour, with paid parking along the front.
