Anavyssos Beach

The main beach at Anavyssos, popular for windsurfing thanks to reliable Meltemi winds and a long open shoreline.

The beach

Anavyssos has the longest open shoreline on this part of the coast, and the wind that comes with it. When the Meltemi blows in summer this is where the windsurfers and kitesurfers go — the bay faces the right way and the fetch is long enough to build proper conditions.

For swimmers that same exposure means livelier water than the sheltered bays north. On calm days it is simply a very long, very wide sandy beach with room for everyone.

Getting there

About 21 km south of Glyfada and 33 km from central Athens, some 35 minutes by car down the Sounio road. Buses on the Sounio route serve Anavyssos, and there is plenty of parking along the front.
