Beach · Varkiza south
Quiet sandy beach south of Varkiza with calmer, less crowded conditions and clear water.
Get directionsAlthea sits on the stretch of coast past Varkiza where the development thins out and the road starts to run closer to the sea. It is a small, sandy, largely undemanding beach — clear water, a gentle entry, and noticeably fewer people than the organised bays a few kilometres north.
There is little here in the way of facilities, which is the trade you are making. Bring what you need for the day and you get a quiet swim within half an hour of Glyfada.
About 10 km south of Glyfada and 21 km from central Athens, on the coastal road toward Saronida. A car is the practical way to get here; buses on the Sounio route pass along the main road above.
