KAPE is the beach people mean when they say the water near Sounion is a different colour. It is a pebble cove just off the cape road, framed by rock formations and small caves, with water that goes an improbable turquoise over the pale stone bottom.
The Temple of Poseidon stands on the headland above, which makes this one of the few places on the coast where a swim comes with a view of a fifth-century BC monument. There are no facilities — the setting is the entire offer.
Getting there
About 30 km south of Glyfada and 41 km from central Athens, a few minutes short of Cape Sounion itself. Reachable by car, with a short walk down from the road; buses on the Sounio route pass along the main road.
