Glyfada A is the northern of the two municipal beaches that give the suburb its shoreline, and it is where the Athens Riviera stops being a commute and starts being a destination. The sand is wide, the water shelves gently, and the whole stretch is backed by the retail and dining grid of Glyfada rather than by an avenue and a wall.
Expect it busy. This is the social centre of the southern suburbs, and on a summer weekend the beach, the promenade, and the streets behind it operate as a single continuous scene. Come early for a quiet swim, or come late and treat it as the first stop of an evening.
Getting there
The beach is a short walk from the centre of Glyfada — under 3 km from the town's main square and about 11 km from central Athens. The tram runs down to Glyfada and on to Voula, and buses along Poseidonos Avenue stop close by. Street parking near the front is scarce in season.
