Practical details
The beach
Vouliagmeni is the point where the Riviera stops feeling like a suburb of Athens and starts feeling like the Aegean. The main organised beach is a wide, well-run bay with fine sand and unusually clear water, sheltered by the headlands on either side and backed by the pines that give the whole area its scent.
Just inland is Lake Vouliagmeni, the thermal lake fed by underground springs that holds between 22 and 29°C throughout the year. It is a separate paid attraction from the beach, and it is the reason people come here in February as well as August.
Getting there
About 6 km south of Glyfada and 19 km from central Athens. The coastal buses toward Vouliagmeni and Varkiza run along the main road above the bay, and there is organised parking at the beach entrance. By car from Glyfada the drive takes roughly fifteen minutes.
