The place
Matsuhisa Athens sits within the Astir Palace estate in Vouliagmeni and is the Riviera's best-known fine-dining address. The Japanese-Peruvian cooking that made Nobu Matsuhisa's name arrives here in a setting that is arguably better than any of its siblings: a terrace on the pine-covered peninsula, looking out over the Saronic Gulf.
It is expensive and it is booked well ahead, particularly for a table outside at sunset. For anyone treating the Riviera as a destination rather than a neighbourhood, it is the reference point against which the rest of the coast's restaurants get measured.
Getting there
On Apollonos Street in Vouliagmeni, within the Astir estate, about 6 km south of Glyfada and 19 km from central Athens, roughly fifteen minutes by car from Glyfada. Valet and resort parking are available; book ahead.
