The beach
Mavro Lithari, 'black rock', takes its name from the dark outcrops that frame the shoreline north of Saronida. The contrast between the dark stone, the pale pebbles, and the blue water gives this beach a harder, more graphic look than the soft sandy bays further north.
It is unorganised and exposed, which keeps the crowds down and the water exceptionally clean. Good for swimming and for anyone who prefers their coastline dramatic rather than comfortable.
Getting there
About 18 km south of Glyfada and 29 km from central Athens, just north of Saronida on the coastal road. A car is needed; expect roadside parking only.
